Acrylic on Canvas
2025
This piece was born out of a moment of deep appreciation for my mother, who has been my rock. Her name is Solange, though within her community she is lovingly known as "Mère So", a French nickname meaning "Mother So". Inspired by one of my favorite photos of her from a Cameroonian Njangi party, I painted this piece as a tribute to my mom and all that she represents. African mothers are the backbone of our communities. They do not just simply birth children, they nurture legacies. They are the glue that holds generations together. This is for the one who shows me love through her actions reminding me that love may not always be spoken, but it is always shown. To the bravest and most hardworking person I know. Dedicated to my generous mother, Solange who gave me the name Léonella.
