No. 2 pencil on printer paper
2015
My late father named me after Dr. Mae C. Jemison after she became the first Black woman to go into space. During college application season, I also took advantage of applying additional academic scholarships. One of the scholarships was from an organization located in Detroit, MI and applicants had to create original artwork to be considered. The prompt of the scholarship piece required us to make original artwork dedicated to someone who has influenced Black History. I did my piece on Dr. Mae C. Jemison. I had the fun idea of putting her in space and surrounding her with many planets. I drew the piece using a Number 2 pencil, and strategically incorporated shading. The shading was the most important part of the piece. I think I had the most fun with this piece!
